Hi there

Simple question, what are the two lines that appear when in floor creating sketch mode? see attached file.

WWHub

Thanks for that but slab span it is not something that can be automatically define and these two lines appear pretty randomly on the sketch.

I believe the lines come with the first line sketched but I don't have Revit here to check.

You are right. Do I need to understand that Revit remember the “span direction “ for future use?

You can change which line the span direction is associated with. Click on "SPAN DIRECTION" on the ribbon and select a different line and it will change them to it.

If your using a corrugated metal deck floor that is the span of the decking and as grimes says you can change direction very easily. also it is not random the first line you make assumes the direction.

In 2011 you can even draw the span direction as a separate line that isn't part of your floor sketch, if needed...

I understand how the Floor tool works, and how to set the span direction. But I don't see any change in the actual floor when the span direction is changed, even when useing a Concrete on Metal Deck floor. Can anyone explain what this tool actually does, and where is it useful? It will be very useful if one can see the actual corrugations in a section view, and the direction of that can be changed useing the span tool. Does this tool do that? Thanks.

3 things to consider.

1. Is your floor type set up with Metal Deck as the "function" of the decking layer?

2. Is your view set to Fine detail view?

3. Are you looking at a Section View?
