I am using Revit 2011 and trying to figure out the best way to create the wall in the photo. It is a brick wall with a curtain wall embedded. I want the wall to be one wall, that extendeds from the first floor and goes up to the roof. This way, if I have to move the wall its pretty easy to move. Whats the best way to go about this?

You should be able to embed a curtain wall into a brick wall. if the brick wall moves the curtain wall should go along with it.

You can do all this in one CURTAIN WALL system..... layout your grids for mullions and just change the PANE to whatever material you want... in this case brick and glass/glazing. NOTE: use TAB button (cycle thru it by pressing it) to select the Pane.

I tried to embed the curtain wall by following the Revit help but had no luck. This is the process that I followed, can you correct me where I am wrong please: 1. I created the brick wall 2. I created a curtain wall outside of that brick wall 3. I went to modify, cut tool, and selected the brick wall first....but I am unable to select the curtain wall now, to embed it into the brick wall. How exactly should I do this? The directions from the help menu are not so helpful right now.

Use a bick wall for the overall height, then place a curtain wall in the same place with the embed box checked. The curtain wall will occupy the middle portion of the wall. I would not do an "automatic" curtain wall. That is one that has pre-set spacings of mullions. Instead, place a simple curtain wall then goto an elevation an add curtain wall grids / mullions / glass and solid panels where needed.

Well, I guess I have another issue. I tried the enbedded curtain wall and it works pretty good except for the corners. Here are two attached images showing the problems I am having. The curtain wall does not cut through the brick wall at the corner? Only when I extend the curtain wall through the entire length of the wall does it work. which is shown in the second image. The problem with tihs is that the curtain wall is no longer correct. Any suggestions?

Try putting a CORNER mullion... that might work. not hundred % sure though.

I placed a mullion there but this did not resolve the issue. Reading up on embedding walls, I have discovered that embedded walls must be shorter than their host. In this case, my curtain wall is the same length as the brick wall. I will try doing this as a curtain wall with brick walls as panels. The only issue I think will come up trying to do this, is what to do with the corners to get the brick to turn the corner? Would I have to try and create some type of corner mullion that resembles the brick walls?

When we have a curtain wall that "corners", we extend one of the curtain walls to the edge of the intersecting wall so that the curtain wall cuts the corner. Then we add a CW grid line where we really want the CW to end and we don't use any panels or mullions beyond that point. (WE CHEAT <GRIN>

Hello,
I put the CW grid line, but can't find how to remove the glass (panelling) beyond that point.
Thank you.
