I've created a sloping wall made of windows that are from floor to ceiling. I've modelled the windows as generic models and have made them workplane based. The issue i have is that it will not cut in plan. Is the only option to create "model lines" at the cut plane and turn off the window? Cheers

Why would you create windows as generic models? They are windows so create them that way, as you discribe it, it even sounds like it is a curtain wall. Every kind of family works according its own principles, a generic model should't be cut so thats why it doen't cut. Anyway; select the component go to edit family. Here you click family catagory and parameters here you can choose a diferent catagory some will cut in planview.

If you search your HELP with the term cutable, you can learn which categories will cut. And I agree with gebber, set the category to window where it belongs. You can start with the generic template if you wish but change the category under options and parameters.
