I have modeled a small column for my project. I used the column family template. The base and top are rectangular extrusions and the column body is a revolve with various shapes. It looks fine in the family editor, but when I load it into my project the base and top show up, but the revolve does not. I cannot figure out why this is. I have attached a JPG of the column in 3D view in the family editor. Daryl Stockton

Sorry, but we would probably have to look at the family.

I didn't open your family but in project change the "Coarse" mode to "Medium or fine" mode, when you do this and IF now you can see the "revolve", open your family, select the "Revolve" and check the "Visibility".

Thanks for the replies. All the visibilty settings in the family are checked. In all my views in the project the Detail Level is Fine. I just noticed that the top and base of the column come in at the level I want them inserted. But for some reason the revolve is one level below. In the family editor the top, base, and revolve are lined up as they should be. I have attched a JPG showing this. BTW, any files I attach are checked by my Exchange email security program, so they should be safe to open. Daryl Stockton

It appears that you ahve answered your own question. In the family, you constrained the revolve to different references than the extrusions. Take a look again at how you modeled these elements. I also highly recommend that you download the Family Guide from AutoDESK - On the AutoDESK site.

I will admit I am new at making families. I have read the guide and even taken a one day families class at my reseller. However, when I am drawing the revolve I have trouble clicking the lock symbol. Every time I move my mouse to click on it it goes away.

On top of all that I am running Revit 2011 on a new Windows 7 64bit machine. I have followed the Vista instructions for loading the Families Guide, there are no Windows 7 instructions, and the guide does not appear in the help menu as it should.

"when I am drawing the revolve I have trouble clicking the lock symbol. Every time I move my mouse to click on it it goes away." - That's because you have the "CHAIN" mode turned ON when you are sketching the lines....
