Looks like you should have no problems on the horsepower end of things. However make sure you do your homework on that 64bit processor. From all I have read and seen they are great chips but unless you have a 64bit OS and motherboard you will essentially be no better than top end 32bit chips. I know the motherboards are out there and MS recently released a beta version of XP 64bit. I personally would hold off a year or so until the 64bit wave is better supported on the hardware and software fronts and spend the money you save on a second monitor.

That's true. You dont need to spend so many money.
Concerning to the Graphic Card, i would try the Quadro family of Nvidia. Link were: http://www.nvidia.com/page/workstation.html

I have a Quadra card and I also have G-force 4 card both from Nvidia. I do not see the bang for the buck in getting the Quadra card unless you plan on killing some zombies in the upcoming 3d game Doom3 in your spare time haha Go to Tomshardware.com and get some benchmarks prior to purchasing.

New machine - Would love to have one. Big bucks are required for new technology so I opted for old technology, but a strong box. For $1,000 I got a Dell quad Xeon PIII server, Gig of Ram and 10000 RPM SCSI array off ebay. Not the most current, but it will process the fool out of a rendering. Put a Nvidia card in it, and have a few glitches (have to hit F5 every now and again) but seems to cope. You have to run Server 2003 for it to recognize the four processors (XP will only see two), but Revit runs fine. It's interesting to watch Accurender peg all four processors to 100% on a radiosity solution. Just be aware, you don't HAVE to buy the latest and greatest to have a work horse. Remember the adage that there is a difference between being obsolete and being TECHNICALLY obsolete..

Congrats man! Its good to see there are people out there who still recognize the power and deals that are available if you just look around alittle. So what if the box you got has older tech parts and struggles with the demands placed on today's servers, it won't be used as a server and now it makes one hell of a smokin workstation.

Any Feedback on your system Stirrup?
I've ordered similar but with 3200
Within the UK the best deals I came across were from Mesh / Evesham / Microland & Carrerra ~ All the above systems are well reviewed
I reckon I got a cracking deal with Carrerra plus they offer 3 years on site & 2 return to base
Cheers
Roger

The next generation of cards from nvidia is supposed to be amazing!
I'll be building a new computer for myself soon (so I can program more sites like this quicker...heh) and I'll have to think hard about forking out the $450+ for that amazing card.

You're computer should run it just fine. I have a 3.0Ghz and a geFroce 6600 GT and it runs really nice. You'll be glad you have that card come rendering time. It is really helpful for making rendering times go way down!
For all those considering getting a new computer, check on the Medion computer series. You can find them at Aldi's or Circuit City. I got mine for $499 and it was 3.0 Pentium 4 with HT, 512 MB RAM, 130 GB HD, and a DVD Burner.
Hope this helps!
