Hey guys, just found your site 2day and found it very useful! Just started learning Revit a month ago for university and could use all the help i could get. 20 year old student studying in Scotland, Going into my 3rd year of Architecture. Quick question, Im trying to design a glazed roof panel to run down into a curtain wall. The curtain wall is in, but dont know how to create the glazed roof section. Any tips?

make a mass in place and model the shape of the roof you would like. use the pick face roof tool and there should be a glazing option in your properties tool bar. video tutorials are helpful for basics. good luck. http://therevitkid.blogspot.com/2010/05/tutorial-roof-basics-revit-rocks.html

Thanks, i know what you mean, but dont know exactly how to do it. Would i create my normal roof first then place a mass in to create the glazed section? Or is my whole roof made from the mass in place? Il read through the tutorials you linked me to and hopefully i can sort it. Cheers for the help

no - make the mass first - make a solid shape with the top plane being the exact shape that you want your roof to be. go to home - roof - roof by face - pick your glazing and click on the roof (the plane that you massed) - then finish roof. this should do it.

Thanks, i did eventually get this to work. Although it worked on a flat roof. If i wanted to do this for a pitched roof, id set up and work plane and create my mass from the plane? Thanks again for the help

I would work with sweeps. With sweeps, it's easy to work at whatever slope you want. Extrusions and blends like to be locked to a level or a plane, so that they can have their offsets and such... sweeps only reference themselves, and are more easily rotated and copied... upward, for example. That's my best advice when modeling. just draw the depth of your "extrusion" as the path of your sweep! It's one minor extra step that'll save you such a headache.

Thanks alot for the help, i shall try this technique out and see how it goes. I seem to be getting the glass section made but the fascia of the main roof remains in front. Which is a major annoyance! Do i just spilt the facsia and delete the part thats infront of the glass section? Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
