We have completed a Revit 2010 project for an elementary school. the project is now under construction and we are getting inundated with requests for CAD bases. While I realize that Revit does a pretty slick job of exporting sheets with each viewport creating a separate CAD file that is xref'd into the Plot sheet. My concern is that there are sooo many sheets to this project and sooo many requests that I am practically exporting the entire job out to CAD to give to consultants to work from. How is the rest of the Revit world handeling this situation? I have tried to send out PDF's of the plot sheets so that I am not giving away our drawings, but they all want autoCAD bases. Your thoughts please

Hi my name is Vince Dubois. I am on facebook. It sounds like you guys are busy. I can not help you with your question. I do residential and lite commercial work. I posted earlier today. Some of my work is on Facebook as well. The building industry is on life support here in San Diego. The states bankrupt. Do you need any contract/independent help. I have Revit Structure 09 and Revit 2010 on my Pent. 7 Asus notebook and PC. I have also have the following software: photoshop 8.0, Indesign cs4, pagemaker 7., and MS Office. Your firm does nice work. Have a nice day Vince Dubois, M.A. Architecture, Revit User Since 2007 858-373-8914 Fax-858-565-8165

Vince, I appreciate your interest in assisting us with contract work and I am sorry to say that although busy we are not in a position to hire contract work. Is there any one else out there that is using Revit and has gone through the construction phase of a project with sub-contractors requesting CAD bases for their work? I would rally like some real world industry standard respponses as to how people are handling this situation. Dan Iacovoni

First, you do not need to export to CAD with xref'd views. Just uncheck that box and the xport will be one DWG. If you do the above, you will only have to manage one dwg per sheet.... much easier. We do not supply CAD backgrounds without releases but we will supply PDF's.

Good information! I have only used this export a couple of times and did not see that check box. That will certainly make things easier if I need to send dwg's. Do you get push back from the subs for sending PDF's and not dwg's?

I'm using Revit, but my MEP consultants are not yet up to speed. So I export the plan then switch over to my reflected ceiling plan and export that as well. I agree with the release, huge liability if you don't. My firm takes it a step further. We charge for the CAD files. Fire Sprinkler and Fire Alarm subs are the major ones that use them. Our principals didn't like the idea of doing someone else's work for free. We do list this fee upfront in the project manual, and in the respected sections, however no one ever seems to read it.Good luck.
