Revit MEP is a poor excuse for design software!!!!!!!!!!

FINISH SOMETHING BEFORE YOU PUT IT OUT AUTODESK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I feel a little better, but this software (v.10) still sucks.         And that's being polite.

Patience....

... but we all know some diehard CAD users who just can't make the transition.  Good luck.

You could state the problem, and either you'll find some agreement, or an explanation for why it's not doing what you expect.

do I really need to explain????? if you've used the software, the MEP version that is, you'd know that the piping is horrible and when it comes to duct - anything outside of a 90 angle in a pain in the curse!!!   And besides I wasn't looking for any suggestions - I'm simply venting my frustrations with the software. I know how to use it and know what I need to do to accomplish my tasks - its just that MEP is SLOWING ME DOWN!!!!!      Don't get me wrong - I actually like Revit, I just wish AutoDESK would put out software that is fully functionable.     They didn't even take the time to incorporate a vent system with the sanitary???? hello???? does anybody at AutoDESK work in this field?????

Why are you not on 11?  I understand there was a big improvement on MEP from 10 to 11.

First of all 11 focused on Electrical - NOT plumbing... that is the focus of 2012. In addition the project I am working on began in 10 and since Revit is not backwards compatible we are still using 10. I have 11 right here... but ironically the EL firm we are working with on this project shot down the idea of upgrading the project to 11 - what idoits! Trust me I would have, heck I wanted to...  any improvment is good to me - I did read that they made some improvements with annotations and such, which I could certainly use. But the plumbing is still in the crapper - a near quote directly from AutoDESK. I am crossing my fingers that 2012 is much more complete - especially right "out-of-the-box". Not enough families and too many "quirks" with the conenction side of things. I could go on, but I have work to do.

I am in partial agreement with the OP.

In some cases MEP is really great to work with, but I do find some tasks very tedious to do.

They are making huge strides IMHO but this is a pretty intense piece of software...having multiple disciplines incorporated into it plus the added intelligence of the disciplines to communicate with each other if needed.

It's pretty easy to address issues in RAC and RST given its one discipline...but a lot of work goes into MEP.

I think this package will only get better.

Autocadisfaster, I could not agree with you more. You have summed it up very well. Those that disagree with or question you, obviously have not had to use it. Architects seem to think that because Revit Architecture works great MEP must also. What I could do in a day in AutoCAD takes about a week in Revit and when all is said and done the drawings do not look as good. Very frustrating indeed!

or die hard Revit fans who don't bother to think criticaly and just assume revit is the best thing since swiss cheese..  It's not just Revit MEP that sucks, REVIT sucks...it's just pro-engineer re-packaged for architure.  Working in it is like having to build a watch just to tell someone the time....cogs and sprockets... all constraint's no criteria, it's like Autodesk does not know the difference.

I suppose one could always consider the alternatives and use them instead.

No point using something if you are unhappy with it.

Im having similar issues. Since i live and work in central Europe, we use much different type of structures and it seems that Revit can only do some types.

Its very good SW but it needs a lot of work now, its very slow to use.

This SW is made now for big companies who needs to work on 1 big project for long time. Smaller houses e.t.c is about 2 times faster in AutoCAD or ArchiCAD.

But i hope Autodesk will do that dirty work fast, Revit has potential but its still in diper.

I can tell some:

Line drawing is pain in the curse; you cant rewrite what you want, you need to remade whole family or even do new one similar; intersection of some masses is still unsolved, smaller sizes unsupported (Details);  Sheets are very complicated to create and almost never importable to existing projects; Design Options are very confusing to use;

But i still believe it will be better 2012, 2013 and so on ... just need tons of work from Autodesk

Archicad is eqully adept on large projects, and much more intuitive than revit.  Graphisoft just desn't market directly to the Architects clients, and tells them they will save so much money if the get their architects to use Revit which is how Autodesk does it.
