When printing a set of pdfs from Revit (2010) into seperate files it takes a really long time (upwards of 20 minutes for 17 sheets). If I plot them from Revit as a combined file, the computer locks up. Additionally, when the seperate files are finally finished, if I select them all and try to combine them with acrobat, it takes upwards of 45 minutes if it doesn't lock up the computer completely. It seems Revit is producing these pdf files in a manner that makes them really difficult to deal with. I have tried printing with our in-house PDF driver (acrobat professional) as well as the cutePDF driver and they have similar results.Anyone have similar issues or know of any solutions?-dgt

We have been using cutepdf for many years starting with Revit 8 and we don't have your problems. Are the Revit views shaded? Shadows? Do you have tiff or jpeg images included? This may be your system. Have you tried printing from another computer?

Thanks for the response. Shadows are not on and there are no jpegs are visiable in the drawings. I noticed that I was printing on Raster settings at the High mode with black lines. Since you do not have problems, under the "hidden lines view" do you print with with Raster or Vector settings? Under "appearance" do you print on Low, Medium, High or Presentation? How about blacklines, greyscale or color? Regards, -dgt

For PDF's going to our out-sourced printer, we do most of our printing as vector - high - black lines but if anything is shaded, raster will be used automatically. For other PDF's, we often print color or raster or lines or combinations. It is not un-common for us to print 50 sheet combined PDF's and not have any problems.... And when we need to add sheets in acrobat or re-order some of them, we have no problems working with the combined files. AGAIN I ASK> Have you tried this on another machine? This is not a REVIT issue !

Yes, I have tried this on other computers. The issue seems to be with the 'high' resolution setting. If I use CutePDF, the files print from Revit quicker then with the default pdf driver. However, to combine them into a single binder still takes a significant amount of time. -dgt
