you can pin it to prevent accidentail movement. but they can pin it and move it. if you are using worksets and you have ity open he should not be able to make changes. Revit will state that they need to get permisson from you to make any changes. if he really wants it that bad just have him duplicate with detailing and then they will have their own copy.

if only that were true... the workset part that is. Sections are NOT controlled by worksets from my understanding and when I have a particular section open it SOMETIMES seeks permission, but most of the time I find that when I go back to said section its been moved and is now useless to me so I have to cut a new one - pain the the a$$ Perhaps your "pinning" suggestions is my solution - thank you, I hope. Basically Revit is inconsistent with the whole "permission" aspect of the software... in addition to other things, but I can rant later/ somewhere else about Revit and its problems.

Sections are controlled by worksets, sort of. While they are not in user created worksets, each view is in it's own workset (open the worksharing dialog, and check "views", you'll see them all show up). The simplest way to check them out would be to select the section, right-click and select "make element editable". That won't check out anything visible in the section, but it will keep anyone else from editing the section while you are working with it. However, the best solution is probably pinning it, as Bimman said. It won't stop anyone from moving it if they really want to, but it will prevent accidental edits, and give users a warning that it's really supposed to be where it is, so stop messing with it, dagnabbit.

yeah, your right sections are not in work sets. but the permission should work as long as you have the view open before him and keep it open, just hog it all day. beacuse revit sees you as being the one working in the file. as soon as you resave it is going to allow him to make changes. but if you don't give up the view you should be fine. and when he asks for permisson ask for his explanaiotn as to why he needs it and then say no. alson if the rooms or wlls move that will change your section beacuse things will not be as they were when you first created it. thats a big issue is when i detail a section all the way out and someone moves the the wall 6" and doesnt relay that info. then all the detail componets ae in the wrond place and i have to go back and adjust. communication with in the project is huge. if all else fails you can always use threats jk

I played around with it just a little bit, just to do some checking. Simply working inside a view will not check out (lock) the view for editing. If you right click and make the element editable, you will borrow the view, and it will get checked back in when you sync with central. If you right click and make the workset editable, the view workset will be checked out. Then, when you do a sync with central you can uncheck view worksets, and it will remain checked out. I think what really needs to happen is a talk with the other users (this is really a communication problem, not a Revit problem). The users need to not move views around if they didn't make them, unless they know they need to be moved. If a user places a section, there's probably a reason for it being right there, and the other users need to either check to see if it can be moved, and/or make a new section.

another idea we have done at times for temp sections is to put our name after the view. so that everyone knows who's it is. it may help if they see a name by it not to move it.

Now that you mention that, I have noticed some architects models have the browsers set up to sort working views with user names. That's not something I've ever considered doing, but I've only worked in fairly small offices, and there's never been more than two people in a project at the same time, so it just hasn't been an issue.
