I am having problems with interference patterns when using Revits generated standard brick patterns and" tiling" when using Revits image patterns for roofing tiles. I have tried making the cube bigger but to no effect.

You need to adjust the scale of the mapping. Making the cube bigger is only for visual reference when setting the material image mapping scale. I would recommend going to www.accustudio.com downloading and installing their material library and also taking a look at their Accurender tutorials. Remember, rendering with Revit is really rendering with Accurender which is included with the Revit software. HTH Tom P.S. Attached is a PDF I wrote for the Revit users group here in Minnesota that I lead. It is not a full tutorial on rendering, but gets you pointed in the right direction.
