Hi

I am trying to add some design option in my model to show a building with rendering on the fasce and also to show the same building with no rendering on the face.

I initiallty set up pahasing for existing, demo, and new construction. I have the existing building with no cement rendering  on it and then go to new construction and add the rendering usinf split face. Unfortunately, the cement renderis also added into my model in the existing phase which is what I don't want. I need to see before and after, hence the phasing.

Do I need to use design options to do this or is there another way?

I have tried using design options but when I try to show the 2 different options /views it doesn't work, the views always look the same.

thanks

Design options are set up for view in properties which one you want to show. So if you have basic view you have to enable the design option you want to show.

 Sheets would look like this:

Layout

Layout A

Layout B

To have 3 layouts containing Basic, Option A, Option B. You have to edit their properties and select the Design Option you want to show also with correct Phase.

can i just clarify then, to do what you say here, If I am in Phase 1 for example, which is my existing model layout and i want 2 different options of what the model looks like in Phase 3 (my new construction phase), am I right in saying that I would simply duplicate the view which is the 3d view in my case as that is where the cement render shows, and then apply the options to each of the views that I have copied?

I'm sure I tried copying a view but still my model in phase 1 was also showing the same changes.

Still struggling to get a firm understanding on this!

Another thing that has happened as well is that when I tried using options, and went to edit one, I was unable to select the region that I had used to do the split face for the cement render finish. Is this right?

Thanks a million

You are confusing design options and phases as well as view based finishes and model finishes.  If you split the face of a model based element (doesn't matter what phase) - that split will show everywhere - every phase the element is in.

  1. If you have an existing wall that you want to show in two different colors, you could use a Design Option.  You would have two copies of the wall in the model - one in the base model and the other in the design option.  They could then be assigned different model finishes.
  2. You could also have two views of a non- DO model then in one view, over-ride graphics in the view to show a different material.  (But not render material)

thanks for that, now i understand why the render material kept on showing in all phases! will add some wall variations and see how I go from there.

cheers
