I need help. File>New>Family>Detail Component Template I want to draw a simple 2D stretchable side view of a Shear Connector. I set up my Reference Planes, I draw my object, set my Dimension with an Instance Parameter and it will not work. I am posting what I have done. This is just a simple detail and I cannot get it to work. Please walk me through the steps of making this work, I just don't get why it will not work. I have tried using single lines. I have tried using a Masking Region. I have dimensioned to the Reference Planes. I just whipped out a 3D parametric window family today but cannot get something as simple as a stupid 2D Shear Connector. Any in-depth help would be great from you all. Thanks.

I added another ref plane at the bottom of the head (3/8" to the right of your left hand ref plane), then in the masking region sketch locked the lines to those ref planes using the align command. That seemed to make it work. Generally objects seem to automatically move with ref planes when they are close (or on) them, I don't know why they aren't here.

TKennedy: Thanks for taking a look at this. I also do not know why it did not stretch when Locked onto the Reference Planes. I took a look at mcantwell's posted Family. He has Locked everything that falls onto a Reference Plane and then constrained anything that is not with dimensions. mcantwell: Thanks for your time. This is a really nice family. It works great. I think you should upload it onto the site - I don't want to take the credit for it. Thanks again.

One thing that I would avoid - not sure if it was a factor - was the reference planes within the filled region. Messes with your head a bit until you find them. PS not something I use so feel free to upload
