Hey all, I've been using Revit now for 2 years. I started in 2009 and got the 2010 and now 2011 upgrades. I like to think of myself as being forward thinking, but after 8 Revit projects, I'm still having trouble accepting this platform. When I ask other people about Revit everyone throws out the "elevations are generated automatically" argument, but to be honest I hate that Revit does that as I spend more time hiding lines then I do creating a elevation from scratch. Not to mention that I do not like the lineweights associated with modeled objects. I still do drafted details. Because I do mostly tenant fit out and other Interior jobs in existing construction, I'm dealing with a AutoCAD background for the shell. I've had many problems before plotting for a submission where a weird shaded triangle shows up on my plan because of some weird phasing issues. I have a AutoDesk consultant that works with my firm. Even he can't fix all the issues I run into. He just tells me that Revit is like that and that I should deal with it. Out of those 8 projects I've kicked a few back into AutoCAD because I just had no time to deal with appeasing Revits desires. I guess I like to think and tell my software what to do, not the other way around. I have issues with wall joins oon a regular basis and I select the wall join function, but that only fixes the problem about 20% of the time and takes a good 5-10 minutes to work. Currently I'm working on a project in Revit where the top floor of the building has a sloped roof. Because there is no exterior wall (the roof slopes down A LOT) my room spaces weren't dividing correctly. I could go on and on. The main point, or help I'm looking for, is despite all the grwat things about Revit, I still have issues on a daily basis that outweigh the benefits. I don't know if I have a crappy consultant or what. Don't other people have these issues to? Is it all user error? I am having a hard time taking 'revit will replace autocad' seriously as Revit inhibits how I work instead of helping me.
