Is there a way to get a door or window to cut through multiple layered walls? For instance I have an existing continuous gyp board wall that has a small isolated area of ceramic tile near the plumbing fixtures. I'm treating the ceramic tile as a wall-wrap/cladding so I can leave the existing wall alone. However, if I place a door or window in this region, it will only cut through one of the two walls but not both. Yes I know I can opt for a single wall type that has ceramic tile already built-in as opposed to an existing wall type layered with tile cladding, but it would be major pain to have to break the existing wall into segments and replace it with "existing wall with ceramic tile" in every instance. There are multiple restrooms. From a purely architectural and contractor point of view, it is absurd to create a whole new wall type when all you're doing is cladding it with tile in the first place. The last thing you want to do is mess with the structural components of the wall. Besides, the existing wall would need to display screened and the ceramic tile would need to be displayed in black to indicate new construction.

You can use the 'join geometry' command to join the tile wall to the base wall and all openings will cut through both walls. This might give you more than you bargained for though if you want just a specific door or window to do the cutting. In that case you can split your tile wall as required, or create families that have parametric voids rather than the standard cut openings.

I didn't realize I could use that option for layered wall types; I'll have to try it. The wall is not that complicated, so I would rather all windows and doors cut through it anyway. Thanks!

Another tip: I realized that if this command is not working, check the base constraints and make sure that they are the same for each wall.
