Hi, I need help if you can give it! My revit program keeps crashing. I am using 2011 on a VAIO. I just updated the graphics card driver, and it continues to crash, and so I am beginning to think it is the file. How can I fix this? I tried auditting the file with no luck. Please help!

The computer specs are not a problem. We just bought this computer, it has an intel core i7 cpu @ 1.60ghz and 6 gb of RAM. 64bit op system and windows 7. I sent the file to Autodesk because we have a subscription, and they claimed to have repaired it, which they did not. Basically, in one view, in a callout of a wall section, if I try to dimension from either the exterior wall, or from the edge of the cat walk, the file because unstable and a warning pops up to tell me to save to a recovery file, but does not shut down revit. Any suggestions?

your problem i think is that since revit 2011 is new and you have Nvidia Geforce cards nvidia has not updated the display drivers to work with revit 2011 your problem will be fixed by installing any Nvidia Quadro FX cards which are certified by autodesk and nvidia to have full stable functionality. if you require a place i would recommend to buy such cards or workstations in genral i can point you in the right direction.

This might be a stupid answer, but I had something similar happen where my model kept fatally erroring whenever I'd do certain operations on a certain wall. I deleted and redrew the wall, and the errors and warnings went away. It sounds similar to what happened to you, so I'd give it a shot. Especially if the other walls are working fine.

Sometimes a particular view will get... corrupted. In my experience, I've had 3D camera views that have a beruda triangle... where revit gets confused and simply cannot render the geometry, and slows to a crawl, or crashes. Delete the view and remake, or try duplicating it. I'd put my money on updating the graphics card drivers, though. I just got a new card myself and it included a driver version dated 2007.

Jackicraig, what version of Revit do you have? there are several Hotfix to 2010 about that "wall" problems like you can see here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9273944#section1 About 2011 you have the "Update 1" to fix some issues like you can see here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=14973244

We are having exactly same problem. Dimensioning anything in any section view crashes Revit. It is happening on multiple machines (including Macbooks) so it is doubtful it is a hardware or driver issue. I have installed 2011 update and it has not helped. All users are using Revit 2011 64bit on Windows 7 & Vista.

Does revit also crash when dimensioning verticaly? I discoverd when the section is not 100% perpendicular to the view you'll get an error and the question to save a backupfile, when clicking yes it doesn't shut revit down and you are able to continu in the same session.

We think we worked out the cause: Walls were not quite perpendiclar to grids, 90.00001153449° instead of 90° (see attached screen shot). When sections are created they make themselves parallel to the nearest thing (usually a wall). Therefore sections were not exactly perpendicular to grids. Unfortunately there is no way to align sections. So after aligning the walls to grids, we had to re-create all the sections. Revit is very unforgiving, it will not tolerate sloppiness. Lesson learnt: keep Rhino users away from Revit!
