Hi, I'm trying to load a new wall family in Revit 2011. I select 'Wall' from the ribbon, click 'Edit Type' in the Properties panel, but the 'Load...' button is greyed out and unselectable? Why is this? How do I load a new wall type? Cheers.

Walls are not "loaded", they are defined in the model. You can copy to clipboard a wall in another project that is open and paste that in your model if you have one defined elsewhere. Or you can click on a wall and define a new type.

You can load a profile for vertical or horizontal usage, but its on the wall you already defined.

So I can't create some sort of library of different wall styles and load them as and when I need them - the same as you can for windows?? Seems strange to me!

You can of course create them in your template so they are there on all future projects. Another option is to create a special "walls" project that just contains the various wall types for your firm. Then to get a specific wall type into your project you simply open the walls project and copy/paste the wall types you desire. You can also use the "transfer project standards", select your wall project, just check walls and transfer away. This will bring across all wall types from your wall project however. You could make different walls project for types of projects such as healthcare vs. K-12, vs. justice etc. These different projects have adopted the name "container projects" in the industry. The container projects hold system elements like walls and ceilings. Or they can contain ready-made assemblies of things like bathrooms. The theory is to make a kit of parts that you assemble a building from and modify as needed in your project.
