is it possible to demo say half of an existing wall or to i need to make two differrent walls representing both parts of the total wall and then demo the part that is going away. also if i do that, windows and doors only cut one wall so do i then need to place an opening at each instance where they occur or is there another way to do this. thanks for listening,

Just split the wall where you need to and demo the part you don't want. If you are splitting it horizontally and demoing the upper half, then doors and windows can be hosted in the lower half and they will cut into a new wall placed in the upper half. You may have to use join geometry.
