HOW DOES REVIT START THE NUMBERING OHF DOORS AND WINDOW. MY PROBLEM IS ON A HOUSE I DON'T HAVE ANY MORE THAN 3 DIFFERENT STYLE OF WINDOWS AND MAYBE 6 KINDS OF DOORS. SO WHEN I PLACE THEM IN I GET REDICULIOUS NUMBERS LIKE 154, 88. I WOULD JUXT LIKE TO KEEP THEM SINGLE DIGITS IF POSSIBLE. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Revit starts from the last value you entered. If your starting a new project with a template make sure you reset the door numbers back to "0" before you save the template.
1. Insert a door and tag it.
2. Double click the number or letter value in the tag and type the value from which you want to start.
If not any user starting a new project from the template you created will start from where you left off. Revit remebers the last number you used.
I second part sounds like your tag is looking for the Mark parameter and not the Type Mark parameter.

when i insert the new number, the next door i place the tag is not #2 it is still #183, the number that revit is pulling is the type mark, not the mark. if i do a properties on the door the mark number goes up by one, but that is no matter what door it is even if it is the same one. i'm trying all of this in my template file itself is that where the change should be made. also if i do properties on the door or window before i place it the type mark number is already listed and that is the 183 number.

if your tag is pulling from the type mark you should have the same number for any door that's of the same type. If you want to give each door a different number you need to have a tag that's pulling from the mark, not type mark

yes i want every door of the same type to have the same number. but i need then to start from 1 and carry through around 10 or so. but the type mark number is in he 100's for my doors and 60's for my windows. i am having trouble as to how to change or reset the type mark number for my doors and windows. i tried priority's suggestion but i had no luck.

1. Select the door/window and go into its properties.
2. Select the EDIT NEW button.
3. You should see the Type Mark parameter.
4. Change that value and all the door/windows of that type should change.
Sorry about the first post. In my office I had 10 people wonder why the door numbering started at 14 when they started a new project from a template. I thought it was the same scenario.
