when working on a project that is entirely on my local revit gives me 3 backups. on a work shared project i am supposed to get 20. well i needed to go back to a previous time in the project to get some missing information that was deleted from the project. when i went to my back up folder there were no backups. then i found out that work shared are saved in a journal file on local drive. so i went there and there were no files there also. there are jounal txt files but no rvt backup files. would they be going somewhere else? or could the backups be set to zero? i did a save as and it is set to 20 back ups. where have then gone..... any help thanks

Because multiple people could be working on a file, shared projects are not backed up in the same manner as non-shared files. To use a backup, you have to use the restore function. You can read more about the differences and how to restor files in your HELP - Search "backup".

also i might add that journal files are not back-up files, that's why no .rvt extension. you can read up on these type files in your Help also.

i got it, i found a post from 2008 that answered my question. for some reason you don't see them when you view the file at its location. but when you goto restore back up and open the file folder in revit wala there they are. wish i found this out 2 days ago. i had to remodel a 3 story stairwell. but it was good practice. it took 2 days the first tiime only 7 hours the second.

that pretty much how things go with Revit. the second time around is always faster. the third time will be faster than the second, and go on, and go on ...
