Is there a way to control how vertical braces display in a plan view? I have knee braces in my structure and on a roof framing plan, about half of the braces show up on the inside of the building and the other half go to the outside of the building. I need to get them all to display consistently, preferebly on the inside of the building. Any ideas on how to control on which side the brace sybmol displays in plan? Thanks...I am in RST2010.

Yes there is. It is not an out of the box system function but I can control which side of my brace the dash line displays. Here is what I did. I created a new bracing family. I simply copied the structural framing families and renamed them. (ex. HSS-Hollow Structural Section-Bracing). I changed the Symbolic Representation in the Family Category and Parameters to be From Family. I created a new Subcategorie to my Object Styles and adjusted the line weight, color, and most important, line pattern to be Hidden. In my floor plan view I created 2 model lines and made them with my Subcategorie [projection]. One on each side of my bracing. 1 foot away the the center line. I created 2 Yes/No Family Types Instance Parameters. I went in the element properties of each of my 2 lines and assigned to them my Yes/No Parameters to the Visible option. Once the family is loaded in your project, all you have to do is check on or off your Yes/No Parameters to see which one is inside or outside. Or in your bracing family leave one of your parameters checked and the other not checked. So if the hidden line is not on the side you want it to be, switch your Yes/No parameters. The down side is that model lines appear in all views. So you have to turn them off in the Visibility Graphics of all views. But I found that to be easily done with the view templates. I have one created for all my views with my new Structural Framing Subcategorie turned off. (ex. View Template, foundation plan view, elevation view, 3D view, ect.). I don't think I forgot anything. If it doesn't work let me know. Hope this helps you out.

I finally got to try this out it worked great. The only issue I ran into is how to get all of the types to work with the "bracing" family? The only type I have available is an HSS8X8X3/8. How do I get all of the other types to load into the customized family just the way the out of the box tube family has? Thanks

When you copied your family and renamed it, you have to do the same thing with the .txt file.
