Hi, Im a student that has a few years of revit under his belt...i've been reading through the forums just trying to glean as much knowledge as I can about revit.  I read that revit models can be exported to 3ds max and rendered there.  My question is why would that be necassary?  Do 3ds max rendering look better? Render faster? or is simply to create an object with more ease than could be done in revit?  Or is it something completely different?

any clarification would be appreciated!

I think the main reason is rendering.

1: To use a different renderer. In my opinion Maxwell Render is far and away the best, but the easiest way I can use it with Revit is to export my project as FBX and import into Max. Unfortunately, you have to swap out all the mental ray materials with Maxwell materials to really make it work.

2: To use a render farm. AFAIK you can't network render in Revit.
