Hey everyone I have a question as far as sharing families and details between users and projects. Currently we have only two people using Revit and we are setup on a network. When we use or make new families we usually save them to the imperial library that is located on our harddrives. We do use a template that we start a project with everytime. We would like to be able to save them to shared file so that in case we need the families later on we can access them easily and quickly. Would it be a good idea to make an "imperial library" on our server and start saving them there so that we can both access the families at any time? Or is there a way to "link" the Stock Revit imperial libraries on our harddrives so we can search each others libraries for families? Thanks for the information

We keep our office created families in a seperate folder in each category of the main Revit library. Then when an upgrade comes, we can copy these up and upgrade them to a new version. I suggest you have a simple naming convention that identifies your content in a different way than stock items.

Thanks WWHub for responding. That sounds like a good strategy. However by doing this can two people access the same Revit Stock Library? As of right now I have most of the families stored on my revit library on my computer and my partner can't access these families without asking me to import them into the projects.

Everything should be on your network ... including your central files. Only keep local files on your system. Assign a librarian.

Put the files on your server then in everyone's Revit, Open Revit, pull down the R - goto options and reset the path for the templates project template and rendering file. Your library paths can be set in the load family GUI.
