Is there a way to trafer mulitiple familes that have been updated in one project to overwrite the families in another project?  I.E., We have a template that we begin all projects from.  Several people work on the template and tweak the familes.  Older projects that were started with older versions of the template need to be brought up to speed.  It is a tedious task to open each family in the template, editing the family and reloading them individually (same goes for reloading from the library).  I have tried copying them from the project tree and pasting into the old file in hopes of overwriting but have only succeeded in making additional copies with in the project.

 Please advise.

It would be a good idea to have an external copy of the families you have changed.  Assuming there is an external copy already (which there should be if the person editing the family said to save the family after they edited it), you could go into your template, expand the family category in the project browser, then expand each subdivision.  As an example, to overwrite the "Single-Flush" door type, expand FAMILIES, then expand DOORS, then right click on "Single-Flush" and choose reload.  You can then select the family that has been modified.  There may be a better way, but don't know it.

Im very late in joining this thread, but I agree there needs to be a way of easily updating mass quanties of families, or alternatively easily updating one family loaded into many files. The latter is a situation we are facing.

Linked Revit files automatically update every time the host project is opened - surely it makes sense to have 'linked' families. An out of date family is no good to anyone.
