I'm making a title sheet for my plans. On it i want to incoperate a key for the symbols I've used in my project so it looks like this (assume typed symbol names are the actual symbol) (elevation symbol)----- elevation target (callout symbol)-------- detail callout ect... the problem is when i try to incert the symbols on my title page revit will not allow me to do so. I then went and created a new elevation and tried to create the key on the new level to see if i could use the view on my title sheet, but that did not work as it still does not let me use all the symbols. I also tried to create a new symbol but that also did not work as i could not load all the symbols into it. It seems as if you can only use certain symbols on certain types of views or something. Is there a way I can make a key for my symbols?

You have found one of Revit's problems. You can not create symbol keys. Instead, Create a legend and draw your symbols there. You can place legends on multiple sheets and you can transfer between projects. (If you don't want to draw, you could do a model view where you place all your sysmbols - export to CAD then clean up the CAD and import into your legend view.)

You don't have to draw your symbols, you can place symbols in a legend.

TKennedy - you are right about detail symbols, but we were talking about callout heads and section heads - tags too. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

I just looked, and you can insert section heads etc. in a legend as a symbol. The fields get filled out with the default values. Edit: I'm using RA2010 Edited on: Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 3:47:02 PM
