I am just curious how thick you guys that are doing residential work draw your studs? I have always drawn them 5-1/2" and 3-1/2". The problem when they are drawn that way sometimes the dimensions come out weird. Just curious how everyone does it? Any thoughts.comments would be greatly appretiated, thanks.

I always use the actual dimension of the stud and my carpenters prefer it that way also. We see drawings where the walls are drawn as 5" for a 4-3/4" wall and worse yet, when they are drawn in Autocad, many times the dimension string doesn't add up. My suggestion is to model as accurately as possible. You can dimension to the center of the wall and make those dimensions as you wish.
