The picture is not very clear but i think you must use the "Wall Reveal" tool

I tried using wall reveal - but is that making a recessed portion in the wall? and how would make the reveal longer lengthwise, I used the horizontal type and when I use the vertical type, am I unable to increase the width.

I have attached hopefully a better photo, hope you can see it better. It is like a molding on the wall.

Thanks for your help.

As always, the first question you must ask in Revit is "does this really need to be in 3D?".  It may sound silly but many things are better off as 2D detailing and that may be something you can simply add to the elevation of the wall via "detail lines".

If they need to be in 3D for other purposes such as rendering, then you would probably be better of with a wall hosted family that is parametric.  If you are just getting started in Revit, then you need to really put in the time learning family creation.  My own personal opinion is that it takes a solid 2-3 years of using Revit to start making well constructed families.  You need to start somewhere though and I would creat the profile of the moulding and sweep it in the wall hosted family.
