Using 2009 architecture building I guess I am missing something when creating a site plan. It is a rare occassion when a contour closes on itself on the same piece of property. that is to say, most contours just 'run through' a site. I can only seem to draw a toposurface in revit, which would be fine if it did not try to close the contours. Is there a way to just draw contour lines in Revit but have it be in 3d? Not sure if i am making sense, maybe if someone knows of a good tutorial on contours. thank you

I don't think I understand the question/issue... Can you put some images about what is THE ISSUE?

I have attached a quick sketch for your use. Baically I would like to add these contours to a Revit site plan, put my building on it, draw a "pad" around its perimeter so the contours dont go through the building, and begin to change the site contours so it works with my building. As you can see the contours dont 'close' they just cross my site. Can this be done in revit as a toposurface? thanks

Did you ever build a chip-board site model in school? You make it by glueing up contour layers and guess what. Each layer of cardboard has the wavy contour edge but it also has other sides in order to complete the layer. Think of your Revit contours in the same manner. All contours do close somewhere but you are modeling a piece of the world so complete the top layer by picking points at the corners of your property.(Or I should say you need to give elevatrion values at the corners of your property ... they may not be on a contour.)

thanks, i think i am getting it. i am using the 'merge surface' feature to solve some issues. I have retaining walls and a pretty creative bit of lanscaping going on. WWhup is good except that if you remove a layer from your model, the rest dont disappear. I was trying to scuplt the whole property using on surface, which i dont think is the wary to go. hope this works... thanks again
