Hello, I'm new to these forums and Revit in general (to be honest, I'm new to all forms of CAD). I've been agonizing over how to import a 3D object from Sketchup and use it as my roof for a school project. I used the SoapSkin&Bubble tool(awesome tool!) and consequently, the roof object is made of hundreds of polygons -see images below. On mouseover, it reacts as one object, but I can't seem to change the entity into a Revit material in one fowl swoop. I resorted to painting the thing one triangle at a time(I was able to assign a material and color to the paint) until my index finger refused to click for the umpteenth time. I'm concerned that merely painting the shape will accomplish nothing. For the rest of the project, I simply imported a frame layer of the house from sketchup and used it as a stencil for the walls. I did some research and found a few tips on importing sketchup objects into Revit, like setting each component of a home to its own color-coded layer. So my questions are: Is there a better way to do this? Should there be an intermediary step in the import process to make my roof more workable? Does the curtain tool apply here (it could only contain 1/6th of the roof object)? Or did I merely miss the step in importing where I assign a material to each layer? Thanks in advance!

You create the Walls in SK and import them to Revit?? Why??? it's so simple to create those walls in Revit.... About the roof, the best practice: go to "Massing and Site" and create a new mass, give it a name, then import that SK roof, place the SK where you want then finish the mass, again in "Massing and Site" you have an option to apply "Roof By Face" then pick in than object and done.... BTW, there are LOTS of threads like this in the Forum section, search in there...

Thanks for the reply, Typhoon. I didn't really import the walls, I just used the imported lines from the sketchup object to manually build the walls in revit with precision. I'll give that "roof by surface" a try and post my success after class (I hope it works on multiple surfaces at once!). Yes, I read many threads and several different ways to import things from sketchup. I was able to do that, but none of the Curtain tool guides worked. Hopefully this Roof by Surface will =)
