I'm attempting to add an RFI log to our project which seems easily doable given the advanced nature of the program, however, I'm not finding a clear way to go about creating one. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, Kris

Although you can do it, it seems kind of strange. Just use an un-used schedule category like some people are using for numbered note lists. You can add the fields you need in the schedule.

When using AutoCAD, our company clouded and numbered each RFI that we sent out with our Shop Drawings to our field personnel. Basically so they would know that this was an area that was inconsistent with the original contract documents. We used the triangle that looks like the Revision tag but slightly different and, as I said, clouded the region. Would there be any way to replicate this in Revit? The clouding and tagging the cloud with successive numbering which refers to individual RFIs? I figure the "description" or "comment" field in the properties of either the tag or the cloud could be used to actually describe the "RFI issue." Am I way off base? Does this make any sense or am I just adding more work? It seems like if I could get something like this working effectively, it would be hugely beneficial. Also, and this may be wishful thinking, but being able to export the RFI "schedule" to Excel would be hugely beneficial. Again, not sure if this is even a reality... I'm still kind of a newbie. Trying to think outside the box though. Thanks Kris

Why not use the revisions for clouding and scheduling your drawing changes... that is what you are doing. Each revision issue might have multiple RFI's and if you want to have an explanation of those, that could be in your RFI schedule.

Definitely an option. I think we would prefer that the RFI Tag (if possible) be located next to each RFI. I suppose I could create a generic tag to note the location but it seems like in doing that, I would lose some of the benefits of using such a powerful program. I don't know if other companies track RFIs the way we do but it could certainly use some examination of Autodesk. IMO at least. Anyway, I digress. I even wondered about adapting the revision log to act as the RFI log but I have zero experience with the revision process. Perhaps that's worth a closer look. How in hell would I go about doing that though? Thanks for the responses by the way Kris

We only cloud/revise drawing sheets not views so these marks are in paper space. A thought you might pursue... Revising your revision tag to allow for other data - RFI numbers. Could this data be shared parameters assigned to that one cloud? I don't know. Could it be Compiled somewhere? I don't know.... maybe in a multicategory schedule..... If you pursue that process and get somewhere - let us know.

Initialy I was trying to do that. I was able to modify the Revision Tag slightly but I think it will take some more adjustments and some more skils learned in regards to creating or modifying families. I will definitely be putting thought into this subject. Thanks for the ideas. I will keep you updated. I believe this has helped me to get the ball rolling.

I just posted a new thread on this but maybe you would know. Is there anyway to create a schedule that references symbols rather than items? Does this make sense? This goes along with the whole RFI log thing.
