here is another example.. is there any way to render that part of the wall that has been cut with a section box and not have it render with its exterior wall material?

I don't believe this is possible. The best solution would be to composite the images together in Photoshop or gimp as a post process.

thanks Mr. Spot- i just thought it would be very nice to make a presentation with some of the walls cut so you could see inside from the outside- but i wouldn't take it into photoshop- and i wouldn't leave it looking wrong like that.. if you happen to come up with a solution please post it here- i'll be watching this thread in case you do.. thanks very much..

I have the same problem and just realized that the visiblilty option - Ray Trace keeps the cut pattern. Could you let Ray Trace run until it is done and then save the image? That might get you what you are looking for.

Correct but 2014 still does not appear to let you render cut patterns so it is still a valid work around with current versions. I stumbled on this thread searching for a solution so I am hopeful my solution helps someone else out in the future who does not think of using raytrace as an option.
