when i try to tag an object, the message comes up: "you have not loaded a tag for this type of object. would you like to load the tag now?". Why yes, helpful Revit Note Suggester, I would. there ensues endless rumaging around looking for the correct "type" of tag. Is there a way to view the objects attributes and see what "type" of tag is needed?

Tags are by category in Revit. Look at the category list and you can decide what tags you need. The best approach is to pre-load the tags into your template so they are present when you go to tag an object category.
