has anyone ever tried building only by off-setting from one level and two intersecting reference planes? how would this work out?

well, I've made single story projects, if that counts. I tend to get a little irritated at people in my office working on our projects who, say, offset an element an absurd distance from lvl1 instead of going up to ROOF and offsetting it two feet.
