When we use measure it gives us it in 256th of an inch. Is there any way we can change that to give us the distance in a 16th of an inch?

I use the Metric system but go to Options>Units or type UN and change the units you want...

You have several different settings in REVIT. They are Project Units - What Revit basically models to (We like to leave this at 1/256" so that when we import junk like CAD, we can see the errors.) If you are seeing dimensions with x/256, then something is probably modeled wrong and you fix them immediately. If you have snaps set right, you won't be seeing these in your temporary dimensions. Dimension Units - You can set up as many different styles as you want. In the styles you can set both text and units - I suggest you name these accordingly like Ariel 1/8 - Round 1/8" To set rounding - Look under Units Format Snap settings .... Set the smallest increment you want to snap to and other logical snaps. In addition to these, you may have unit settings in formula's and schedules.

So guys this will change the measure command and not just the dimension command, right?

No, that only changes the dimensions. The tape measure will still use 1/256". As far as I know, that cannot be changed.

A x/256" dimension bothers you in a measure? ....Why? If you are modeling correctly, you usually will never see this kind of dimension or measure. If you are tracing CAD, then you will see this kind of dimension and I suggest you fix it. You will find that parallel lines in CAD drawings may not be parallel in REVIT and that because of Rounding in CAD, you will get these x/256 measurements. I believe your project units control the measure tool but I would not set that unit higher.

It bothers me because when we scale something in the architects drawings it measures it to the 256th - oh wait a minute i just reread you post - so basically you are saying that the architect is not modeling correctly. So if modeled correctly I should never get 256th increments.

Correct. If you use the measure tool on the architect's stuff and come up with 137/256", then that's because they made it 137/256". My guess would be that at some point they traced a cad background at some point, that's about the only time I ever see those dimensions. If you want to get some rounded dimensions, you can just use the dimension tool, then erase the dims when you are done. It's a little more work, but it will give you a rounded dimension.

Thats BS! You should be able to set the measure tool as any other. So you measure a line that in autocad that has been OFFSET with the offset command at 7 3/4" in revit it measures with the measure tool at 7 195/256" so there is a deviation of .0117 apparently built in to autocad? You need to be able to adjust units of the measure tool as with any other units to eliminate this. We are building buildings not watches!

I don't think there is a deviation built into Autocad (though there does seem to be some sloppy drawing at times), the deviation seems to come throught the .dwg to Revit translation. I don't know why it happens, but it most defenitely does.
I much prefer the meaure tool to not round. I want dimensions to round, but when I use the measure tool I want to know what the actual measurement is.
