Hello

i wanted to find out one thing. When you do a renovation of a building and you need to add insulation to exterior walls......you draw a curent state of a building in one phase as an existing building....the you change the phase to and demolish walls that you want to remove....then change the phase to the next one and draw new stuff in like wall etc....so what about the walls that didnt get demolished (exteerior walls) but you want to ad a layer of insulation and some type of new finish like stuco or smth else.....how do you show that? do you need to add another wall to that containes only desired walls and edit the profile for window openings or what? i'm kind of lost here....pls help

thanx

I think you answered your own question..."but you want to ad a layer of insulation and some type of new finish like stuco or smth else....'... Do that.  You can have a wall type that is insulation and stucco - placed against the existing.

i was afraid of that.....i secretly hoped that phasing is more like animation in 3ds max.....where any change you make is taken in account at some period in time.....cause that would make sence.....now it's jus silly cause you have to make a 2nd wall right nex to the 1st one and no windows or other holes will cut trought and you have to edit profile of the wall whitch is always pain in the curse...ok thnx for the quick reply....apriciate it

Once you have the 2 walls next to one another, use the Join Geometry tool on them.  You will quickly notice that any opening in the first wall appear in the second wall.  That's it.

It seems like most people are dealing with it this way.  However, has anyone figured out what to do to get window and door jambs to show correctly in the 2 wall types (one existing to remain core only and one new finish only) method for handling showing new finishes on existing wall?  I find that the windows or doors I use it cuts through both wall fine, but the jamb and what not only goes the depth of the host wall even though the core wall and the finish wall is joined together.

I've been searching up and down the blogs to see what people have done.  Any help would be appreciated.  Guess my only question left is.. it seems odd that it is Revit 2011 and it seems like not much improvements have been made to accommodate that needs for renovation projects.  That seems idiotic to me given that is a gigantic part of the world of architecture.  For every new building built, there is like many buildings being renovated.  It doesn't make any sense to me... but maybe that is just me.
