In lieu of an earlier post of mine, I'd like to share some free software I use during my work day. This is good for all the poor folk. (note: I've listed windows apps because most people use windows and im not TOTALLY free from it either.) PDF Viewer: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/ (free version) I feel that it's faster than the Adobe Reader and has better options, such as opening multiple PDFs into tabs, versus multiple memory hogging instances. The markup tools are the only things that I dislike. PDF / Image File Writer: http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator (free version) We ALL need to write a PDF from time to time. I REALLY like the tool because, as a Revit user, I cannot put said PDF into my Revit project. If I write an image file, I simply go to Print in my current application (like Revit, MS Word, PDF Viewer, etc), select "PDFCreator" as the printer, click Print, then in the new window, I select Options (note to some Vista64 users: Options may take a while to load.) I then select "Save" on the left, and now i have options for different file types on the right! Plus, the "Format" options on the left will allow you to set the quality and get REALLY REALLY nice image files from those PDF files. Image Viewer: http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm (free) The Windows picture viewer is rather slow but has almost no features. Fastone Image Viewer has a TON of settings and options. It works best if you load the Fastone Browser, go to Settings and then Settings again (or Press F12), go to the Associations and select all. Now when you're browsing your files and double click a picture, the screen will black out, and leave you with just the image. Left click is a quick zoom, right click has a menu, there are hidden menus to the top, bottom and sides, and your mouse scrolling wheel scrolls through all the images in the current directory. I like that it utilizes the standard windows browser as I would normally do. It also has Draw tools that allow you to annotate! This featureful program should not bog your system down when you're trying to view and zoom those old grainy scanned in 30x42 archived as-builts saved in a fatty TIFF format.
