Hello; Should one upgrade a Revit project mid-stream from one version to the next? If not, why not? If you must (ie client demands it), how? Thanks Much...

By mid-stream - what do you mean? SD - DD - CD ... percents ... where are you in the project? Do you have linked revit files? There are possible problems with updating. I am never comfortable that everything is there if the project is really developed in CD phase. I'm not worried so much about model elements. A big problem is file size and memory. If you are on a 64 systems with lots of memory, you should not have that issue. Otherwise, your system may bomb after grinding away for an hour or more.

Related to the upgrade quesation what does one do when a project was started in 2009 version then moth balled now it's back and out in 2010. I found early on that 2009 will not open 2010 and I feel that is true of 2010 not opening 2009.

rcurrent, First - Revit is not backward compatible so a 210 project will not open in 2009. As I said in a previous post, a lot depends on how far along the project is. We have a project that was done in 2008 and we have kept it there because of its size an complexity. This project had several phases because of multiple bid packages and is about 200meg. None of our systems are even capable of converting it. You should open a disconnected copy of your central and try it. (Convert all links first)

HTH " More specifically, it will open and upgrade a 2009 file, and if you then save it will be a 2010 file that will ot open in 2009. It sounds like you don't have much of a choice, as someone else is deciding to move to 2010, so you will have to follow. To upgrade a file, just open it and save it.
