RAC 2009 - I'm creating an object that will have detail components embedded into it, but I need to figure out how to have those detail components relate to the Object Style Subcategroy I have created for that object (so when I want to hide the object in VV, the detail component hides with it). Suggestions?

if you create it as a family and bind it as a group then when you hide it everything will hide together is that what you mean ?

Well, upon further analysis the problem appears to be with the objects as well. The visibility control works perfect in 3D views, but not in plan - meaning I cannot turn the objects off through VV in plan views.

This is driving me nuts, and I know there has to be an easy solution. My Object Style Subcategory is working perfectly in every view except floor plan and RCP. I tried toggling the element's visibilty settings within the family to be visible (or not) in those views, or cut in plan or RCP (or not) and it didn't do anything. What am I missing?

I really don't like embedded details.... but.... have you tried setting the detail family to shared? I don't know if that will work or not.

I agree about embedded details - I'll probably do another way. I've ignored that problem for the time being, and have been fighting the modeled elements - they're not being controlled by their Object Style once imported into a project. I've created a subcategory for them, but they won't turn off in plan or RCP - they work great in every other view....

You need to look in the family. Model and symbollic lines have to both be controilled if they are set to be on in plan.

Yeah - I abandoned the Detail Component and just went with Symbolic Lines - seems to work better anyway. FYI - you can't load a shared Detail Component into a 3d family - it gives you a no-no message.
