hi, i'm using mep2010. i have downloaded from seek and from here ceiling mounted exit signs. i can't however get them to actually place into the model. i have gone into the families and made sure that they are lighting fixtures. but if i try to insert it, it shows in the tool bar as a component and will not attach to the ceiling, or a wall, or anything. could you please tell me what i'm missing. here is the file. if it didn't attach the file came from revitcity. i got it from the download page.

Do you own the ceiling or is it a link? Are you placing it from a ceiling plan?

You can only place face hosted elements on a linked object.

so would i have to totally recreate this element, or should i just place a ceiling in the model to attach it to. as it is i'm going to have to make a fake ceiling in the vestibule to attach the pendant lights to. the vestibule has an arced ceiling and if i hang a pendent from it the pendent comes down at a scued angle that matches where it was attached.

Remember, there is a no thickness - no property ceiling that comes with Revit to use with exposed construction as a ceiling host. It is one of the default ceilings.
