I have tried to play with properties and visibility but I am totally lost as how to make this work. If someone can help me that would me most appreciated.

You can try the section box under properties
or if you break your file into worksets you can do a level 1 and level 2 workset and turn off the workset you don't want to see.

Thank you for your input. I must admit that im still lost :-)
I can check/uncheck the section box without any visible result in the 3D view. I imagine that there is supposed to be parameters somewhere, but i just dont find them.

In 3D you can use the section box to clip the viewable portion of a 3D model; to see the clipping, When the section box is visible, you can resize it and rotate it with the handles (see jpg).

Thank you both for your input, I got the hang of it now. The speed of the answers where fantastic. Its really nice to know that there is a thriving and excellent community before making a purchase descision.
