Nice way to spend my New Years eve.....with fascias! I'm leaving, but I figured I'd leave this up - maybe someone can guide me in the right direction. I have created and used several profiles in my drawing (see image). I've used these successfully for cornice sweeps. However, when I try to use one of these profiles for a fascia sweep on my roof rake, I only get the generic, default profile. As you can see from the image, I've duplicated the fascia, and when I try the pulldown for fascia, I cannot select one of the loaded profiles. I've read a dozen other posts on this subject, but others don't seem to have this difficulty. Happy New Year, and if you have a moment, lend a guy a hand (I have two questions on here now). Danka!

The Fascia Sweep PROFILE that you are trying to use as a Fascia; is it defined properly. Is the “Profile Usage” defined as “Fascia” (Family Category & parameters dialogue box) ?The Cornice Sweep that you are using as a Cornice is probably defined as a “Wall Sweep”, therefore you can’t use it as a fascia.

I've run in to this as well. My suggestion is to open a fascia profile and import the cornice profile in to that.

Happy New Year everyone! OK...So I guess I'm getting confused with the terminology. "Family Catagory" and "Parameters". See attached image - is this what you are referring to? I don't see where wall swwp is defined. I did however modify an existing wall sweep profile to create this profile to use on the rake of the roof. Is it somply a matter of clicking a box to make it used as a non-wall sweep? And a second question to that is why can't I use a wal sweep for a sweep along a gable end? Are wall sweeps relegated to purely horizontal and vertical applications? What file would I open to create a new fascia profile, and would I use the import fuction to bring in the profile? Thanks!!

Well, I got it to work FINALLY! For others who end up reading this when hitting the wall....... 1. Open the profile 2. Copy the lines 3. File/New/Family 4. Pick a template - I used Profile-Hoseted.rft 5. Paste/aligned/current view/same place 6. Save in project, then import. 7. NOW, it shows up in the pull down menu for profile selection. Boy it would be convenient if there was a FASCIA PROFILE template, so you wouldn't have to guess about which one to use. ALSO, even though it's working now, I'd still like to understand the whole PROFILE USEAGE thing, because I still don't. e

"OK...So I guess I'm getting confused with the terminology. "Family Catagory" and "Parameters".See attached image - is this what you are referring to? I don't see where wall swwp is defined." NO, You can control that in "Settings>Family Category and Parameters" like you can see in the image attached, you don't need to copy paste that, just change the category you want....

Wow, Revit2010 looks a lot different than 2009! Mine looks like below, and I found the profile useage adjustments you are referring to under settings. However, if I adjust this to Fascia, wont it create problems for where I've used it as a wall sweep? So, is the sugestion is to do a save as, and rename it? Is this very different than doing a copy paste to a new profile? Thanks for the tips! e

Yes, you can "save as" with other name so you can use the profile like a fascia or a wall sweep or other category you need... Why don't you try?
