Need to duplicate and exisiting family so I can change a parameter.

 I have tried everything I can think to create a duplicate and not have them be linked but everytime one change in the family adjusts all the other instances. 

 Any help would be appreciated.

In the project when you pick in the "Family" go to the Properties>Edit/new and "Duplicate", give it another name, then change the parameter you need...
