I have two sections that call out thw same parapet detail. I have linked both callouts to the correct detail view. I was hopeful that placing the detail would have the tags change in both locations, but this does not seem the case. Has anyone has this senario before? thanks

Have you used "Reference Other View"? If so, then the callout tag references should be correct in both of them...
