This can have a large overhead to the model, so I wouldn't be modelling tiles unless its only a small project (ala residential). HTH.

Sorry I can't recommend best practices but straight-on product photographs which could be used in rendering are available at Monier Life Tile by drilling down from http://www.monierlifetile.com/product/index.html There are also hatch patterns http://www.monierlifetile.com/designtools/hatchpatterns.html (some of which top a megabyte) which could be used in drawings. To use any pattern file as a Revit model pattern you should use a text editor to add a line containing ;%TYPE=MODEL just following the line commencing with an asterisk toward the top of the file. You may need to scale the pattern as you load it. Much smaller equivalent patterns that will load faster and take less space in the model to store can be constructed. Which tile pattern are you contemplating?

Hey I had a project where I needed to render these same tiles... I figured it out if you could still use the technique. Check out this family download: http://www.revitcity.com/downloads.php?action=view&object_id=11272 and read the description on how to do it. It's annoying but renders great.

Hi, i have this house drawn. But i need to try and put a 3D Roof on with hip, and valleys. Ive been looking everywhere for a 3D roof pattern but cannot find any. I tried chrisakohl's downloads, but they dont open, pops up with saved in later version of revit. I was trying to draw one up myself but have no idea how to. Really like some help if possible Or just a description on how other people done it.
