i am trying to create a niche in a wall of a window family.
i havent been able to provide for depth in opening.
if i create a void, i cant see it as a niche in 3D.
can any body help please?

Does that read a niche in a wall AS a window family??
Personal to create an adjustable nice family i'd use Generic model-->Wall hosted family.
Then create some reference planes to control the voids size and depth into the wall. Then create the void and constrain to these reference planes.
Then use the cut geometry tool to tell the void to cut the wall (which i believe is the step your missing. It also won't work if you still have the opening cut in the window family as a void and an opening cut cannot exist in the same family)

thanx.and you are right, i am missing out on the step you are talking about.
but i am still having trouble doing it.
can you please give me a more detailed step by step procedure?
