Hi all. I'm pretty new to the world of Revit, having just made the dreaded switch from AutoCAD. For the most part I'm finding it pretty easy going which is a blessing. Anyway, I'm trying to make a stair like the one shown in the image I have attached. Basically, the stair starts out as normal, and splits in 2 directions after the 12th riser. Can anyone tell me how this can be done while avoiding tearing my hair out at the same time? Thanks in advance. Neal.

You will need either 3 seperate stairs or two depending on how you want to handle the stringers. I would do it as three. The first gets you to the landing then do one leg and mirror that to get the other leg.

Ah. Good thinking. Thanks for that. Is there no way to do it as one complete stair unit?

Àlso, how do I go about creating the landing? Do I do it indepentantly of the 3 stairs?

You might want to create the landing with a floor type.. that's usually how I do it. And I think 3 stair strings would be easiest, like WWHub said above. I just did a similar stair, and it worked for me. Also, if you create the railing as one solid piece (on each side) It will come together better...

You mean create it as a floor, and give it the same material as the stair? Would that not look a bit.......square.....for want of a better word? What about the nosing? (sorry for the n00bish questions).

Yeah, just create a floor type called "landing", and make it the thickness and material you want. You can create a little custom piece as a model for the nosing. I have found that you can make almost anything with custom modeling.. Which version are you using? You can go to 'Component' and then 'Model in Place', then create a sweep of the nosing you want. If you need any help, let me know.

Thanks, Cherlya. I'm using 2010. It's bit of a challenge getting used to the revit world, but it's fairly enjoyable for the most part. If only I had a bit more spare time..... I got the landing done by creating two floors, one on top of the other, the top one slightly wider which gave me the nosing. Now for my next problem (it's never ending). Because my stair consists of 4 separate stairs (you know what I mean) how do I get my railings to join up at the corners?

You can create a third, smaller piece of railing to join the two stair railings, or you can 'edit path' of just one railing to extend out over the landing to connect to the other railing.. I have found that you can't join railing elements though. Just adjust the path sketch to look right. If you have a stair with an end baluster, you can create an almost identical railing that doesn't have a baluster on one end (that way you don't have a railing with a double baluster). That was just about clear as mud, but I hope you see what I'm getting at. Sometimes Revit doesn't to things automatically or like you want it to, so I've learned. But I love Revit.... I'll never go back to AutoCAD.

Thanks again, but the problem is moreso at the corners. See the attached image (I've moved it out of the building for clarity) I'm also having problems with the bottom part of the rail reaching the floor, as you can see. Again, sorry for being stupid.
