RAC 2009 - I'm struggling to find a work-around for a dimension that wants to associate itself with objects in another design option. I have 2 design options for a foundation (one's a slab, the other's a crawlspace). The walls are in the same spot, but I want to add a dimension to the footing (the footings are different) of each in their respective D.O. The problem is that they are too similar and close to each other that when I accept one D.O. the dimension applies itself to the other wall and remains. I want Revit to delete the dimension. I have checked to make sure the dimension is actually on the wall in its respective D.O., so logic tells me it should go away when the other D.O. is selected. Short of creating a plan for each D.O., does anyone have a work-around?

When you place the dimension, do you place it with the other design option off in VG? I don't know why you don't want to do two plans.

The plan that I'm using is set to Automatic so that when I choose a D.O. it will adjust. I can do 2 plans, but that just means one more thing to maintain, and the plans are so similar that I would prefer to get this dimension to work - especially since it's the only piece that's not working.... I do place the dimensions while their respective D.O. is active, but that doesn't seem to make a difference with the Primary D.O.

With DO's, you have a base then the different DO's for each option scheme. The primary does not turn off but the indiviual options in each set can be controlled. If multiple items are on then you have multiple sets. If your dimension is dimensioning to something in a different set and you don't want that, then turn that off.

The problem isn't that the dim is on something in a different set - it's that Revit will associate the dimension to the new object when I change my primary, and will ultimately stay when I accept that primary. The logic makes sense (i.e. Revit is trying to keep from loosing data in the D.O. process), but it's not working the way I would like. I guess I have to break down and do 2 plans the are associated with the different D.O.'s.
