so I'm using Revit MEP 2010 and without and architects arch revit file i was forced to try and create my own. I know MEP only has a limited amount of things you can do, and it's understandable. however when trying to place a floor type I was successfully able to "edit type", "duplicate", and "rename" the generic flooring types to form 3 completely different floor types 1 concrete, 1 vinyl, 1 wood. however tyring this again this morning, anytime i try to dupliocate and rename one of those 3 floors to create a new fourth floor type, it not only changes the new duplicated and renamed floor type but also the one i originally duplicated. seeing as i started with 2 generic floor types (concrete & Vinyl), and was able to duplicate and rename one of them to form a 3rd floor typ-e (wood), why can't i do the same thing for a fourth floor type without it changing my third one as well????

Sounds a little buggy. Are you sure you are 'duplicating' ? What does the AE at your reseller say ?

my AE? not sure what that is. thought it was buggy but it was working fine on friday so i figured it was maybe a setting somewhere since it's revit mep and not revit arch that is preventing me from duplicating and changingmore than 3 floor types.

An 'AE' is what autodesk resellers call an Application Engineer. Basically the technical person as apposed to the sales person. These are experts and they are paid (in software markup) to answer questions, solve problems and inquire to autodesk about problems for their customers. As far as I can tell you are not limited to how many floor types you can create in REVIT MEP. Unless someone else knows something I do not know? MEP is not my forte. Contact the people who sold you the REVIT software and explain your problem. All autodesk resellers are required to provide basic support to their customers. If you become a regular support recipient they may try to sell you a support contract but it depands on what the support is in regards too.

thanks so much for your help...just before i was going to contact our seller to speak with an app engineer i realized when duplicating i wasn't changing the material TYPE just the material, so when i made a new floor type it changed the last one as well because the types were the same even though my finishes werre set to be different. changed the material type from vinyl to carpet then picked the carpet...it worked. must have forgot about that ovet the weekend thanks Daryl i'll have to keep the AE in mind next time as well.
