Hi, I was just notified that we are insulating all sanitary piping in the building (above & below ground...don't ask=) That's what they want, so I need to quickly have everything sanitary shown with 1" insulation. I'm hoping there is a setting (aside from r-click properties...doesn't pick up fittings...that's a separate operation). How about my future sanitary pipes?? Is there a mechanical setting that gives me a specified insulation on pipes and fittings as I draw them? Thanks, Joe

Hello, I just did a little experiment that you might try to see if it suits your needs. If you select one of your pipes that belongs to a Sanitary system, right-click and select "Select All Instances, you should just get all the sanitary pipe in the current view selected, no matter what the size. You can then go the Instance Properties dialog box and assign the insulation thickness you need to all of your sanitary pipes in this view. In my little test, I ran this a second time and picked up all my sanitary elbows. However, you would need to run it again for different kinds of fittings so be careful. Also, remember that you will need to add insulation to any new pipes or fittings that you add. Next, issue you might have would be the display of different linework for the insulation. You can assign that either in the Object Style for Pipe > Insulation to create a default for the entire project or set it in Visibility/Graphics for the current view only. You may wish to show the pipe outer diameter as well as the insulation. You you can do that in a Wireframe, Model Graphics Style, but, that may not be how you wish to display all of the other objects in the current view. You can circumvent this by creating a Filter for just your Sanitary pipes and pipe fittings and checking on Transparent to display the sanitary pipe hidden by the insulation. Be advised that a transparent pipe will not generate hidden lines for the objects the pipe passes above. It is as if a transparent pipe is made of glass. You can also turned off the pipe centerline if you set the pipes transparent either in Visibility/Graphics or Objects Styles. Once you are satisfied with the display settings in a view, you may wish to right-click on the View name in the Project Browser and select "Create View Template from View..." to save your display settings and apply them to a different view or views in the future.
