ok - i am trying to figure out how to make the CL (centerline) and PL (plate) symbols. I have this book that syas create the letters P & L in transparent text. well I made them changed them to transparent and then moved the L over the P.. then the book says to create a label next to the symbol for the text addition and make it left justified. That is where I am lost. My P & L are still two seperate pieces. I don't get what the text is for that is suppose to be next to it. and I also couldn't find where to create a label. Then it says save and load this family into your project, and save it ti your own annotation library - lost again. Can someone please help.

Ok, I have a question. Do you want CL and PL in the same family? I have them as seperate families because they serve two different purposes. They look the same but that's the only common ground. CL can also be used with dimensions which would have nothing to do with PL. In fact REVIT comes with a CL annotation family. I have my CL and PL as seperate annotation families and do NOT have to use labels (intelligent parameters) they are just static text objects within the family located at the intersection of the two origin controlling reference planes. As an excercise I can see the purpose but as a functional family I'm not sure where the value is? Can you elaborate?

We are wanting to use them in notes - to call off a plate size (PL 1/4"x3"x3" or centerline in a note or on a line. but i think we might have found that if we change our font to simplex that all these are already built in. But now I am having a problem of how to change the font. Do I have to go thru each properties table and change it, do I need to make a new text type in the text family with the font, (I noticed when I bring up the text properties box that arial is a type in the text family), or can there just be one easy command that will change it everwhere? (We are going to be setting up a template sheet and this is a couple of things we need to figure out how to do.)

ALT+8522 works for Arial, but the PL symbol is kind of small and may not pass the muster of some people.
